At Bacchanalia we are interested in finding the very best wines we can from an inexpensive glugger to that special occasion bottle.  We have found that most branded wines tend to taste a little bland & often too sweet with no structure.  This is because brands want to try to produce the same product every year, often at the detriment of quality.  When wineries become solely profit making factories, that love & care that makes wines from smaller producers so pleasurable is lost. Bacchanalia urges customers to come in and try something different. It might change your life!

These amazing products can bring great pleasure to people’s lives, be it a pleasant glass on your own, a few bottles with friends or that stunning special occasion bottle. Bacchanalia believes that the true pleasure in wine and beer is their amazing diversity, subtlety and the very fact that these products are not the same year in year out, even from the same producer.

How can our level of quality be so consistently high?

Effectively it’s all down to how we choose our wines.  Being independent we can pick & choose the very best of the companies that are importing wine into this country.  We do import a small amount ourselves but to make it cost effective you have to ship in a lot of one product at once, so to get the superb range of products at the best price we use the very best wine importers as well.  Many would stop there & just order blind from these excellent lists.  We however, make it our business to toddle off to London & try each of these companies portfolios of wines & select only the few that we really rate as of the highest quality.  This selection process is the same for all of our wine from the BBQ glugger, to the finest Burgundy.  Also, we don’t just do this for one of two companies, we do this for each of more than 20 companies we order from.  Of course this means more work for us, but also more fun.  It also means that if you need a hand choosing, we will have tried the wine & can advise accordingly.

Now, everyone’s taste is different & we cannot guarantee that you will love every wine you buy from us, but we can guarantee that it will be a well made wine with good balance & flavour.

What have we been trying?

Turckheim Veilles Vignes Gewurztraminer 2007
pours a deep gold, lovely classic Alsace weight & mouthfeel, an underlying thread of acacia honey runs all the way through with delicate perfume showing lightly on the nose & palate.  A lush & pure style rather than lots of lychee & perfume, I had it with some Vodka Arribiata & it absolutely hit the spot, the honey dousing the chilli perfectly.
